Exclamation Science Homework Help Needed ASAP

I really really need help with a question for a science report.

    c) Relate the results of your project to something in real life.

My project is something that uses syringes to pump water to the other syringe in order to elevate a platform. The thing in real life that I thought could relate to my project would be a mechanic shop where the mechanic gets the car onto the platform and has the support move up so that the platform will go up in order for the mechanic to work under the car.

So my question is, does the support use air to lift up the platform or liquids?

Sorry if you find this confusing, but I really need help with it.

I offer rep to anyone who I feel has helped me or who I feel has tried to help me. Thanks again

    Ellis.

If I understand your description correctly, you could use a brake system on a car. A water being the brake fluid in that scenario. I'm not sure about your question though, somebody else may be able to help.

The basic question I'm asking is...

In a mechanic shop, do they use air or fluids to get the support under a lift to elevate?

    Thanks for trying though

If you're talking about the hydraulic arms that lift up the inspection platform things (like in an MOT service garage or something) then it could be done with air or water really, I'd guess at air as most used though.
