    Default Illegal idea?

OK here is my idea (I am 99.9% it is illegal but its a idea)

OK, people upload their MSN contact list (XML) onto a site, if the msn / email has not yet been added to the server you will not get payed for it. If it has not been added it you will be credited 5p to your account, at the end of each month you will be sent the money (via paypal) for all the valid emails you have added.

    How they would make money

    - Adsence adverts for the mainsite
    - Charge companys £5 to send a email to 500 random emails on the server
    - Charge companys £12.50 to send a email to 1500 random emails on the server

I think it would be a good earner!

But I think it would be illegal due to the data protection act

    ta,
    Danny

Well I think it would probably be illegal. I doubt you would be able to give away information like that.

They wouldnt not be given away, they would be stored on a mysql table where me (the admin) could send a email on behalf of the company

Well you would need to become a licenced data holder if you did, else it would be ilegal under the Data Protection Act "/
Also You would be sending unsolited mail each time you issued a message over the network, So Each indevidaul would be obligated to agree to recive the emails, as well as haveing a simple easy method to OPt out, under the CANN spam Act.

Also Its been done. Its called Bebo or somthing, Its just a SPAM engine that pretends its a myspace clone. It does pretty much exsactly what you suggested

Loads of companies do it but as mentor said you proably need a license or at least to conform to the Data Protection act but people make money out of selling CD's full of emails..

Also you would have to check the validity of the emails since people could just send loads of fake ones.
