Dedicated Server will have a high connection speed. Like 100+MBPS Uplink
But at home you may only have 56k uplink

What you want a server for?

If it just to host a few personal site, then you wont need a super fast connection. I know someone who runs their site off a 512k. Its not that slow. (It really depends on the ISP uplink speed)
