No, things happen as a result of something else. As for the latter, I prefer to not live my life in fear of ladders and cats and whatever else.

I do believe in fate but i'm not sure about superstition because i have seen many black cats and i don't think i've been that unlucky.

I hate fate because that means I have no control over my life.

Supertition I hate because it means in order to succeed at something, you need to do something seeminly random.
