He just stood there, staring straight into her head with his piercing eyes, looking straight through the invisible wall surrounding her and deep into her mind. She could sense him there, searching for the answer.
“Do you even love me?” he had asked, only a few seconds before. She looked away from his stare, her eyes filling with watery tears. She shut her eyes tightly. A single teardrop fell upon her closed eyelashes, spilling her mascara and falling down her perfectly made up cheek.
He turned her back on her, something he knew he should have done a long time ago. Quickly wiping away the teardrop that had just fallen from his eyes, he took a heavy breath.
The girl could no longer feel the pain in her head as the pain from her heart had overthrown it, choking her from the inside. Falling to the ground, she let out a gentle sob, which silently echoed in the empty, musty room.
He turned his head to look at her one last time. She was on her knees, silently sobbing to herself, her quivering hands enclosed her tearstained face. Slowly, he took his final steps out of her life, for good. This was the only thing he could do that would make the situation better; there was nothing else possible. He had to.
“No, please no” she muttered as quietly as a mouse.
“I’m sorry, I have to.” And with that, he left her. Walked away the girl he had once loved. Away from all her problems. Away from her, forever.
The sun shone brightly above them as they walked side by side, hand in hand along the parkway with the birds singing the fresh songs of spring. She smiled to herself then looked to the handsome man beside her and smiled at him. He smiled back, his gorgeous eyes sparkled with life. Her stomach tingled with those familiar butterflies.
“Where to?” he spoke, his voice making her tingle with excitement.
“Shall we go to the river? It’s lovely around there at the moment. We could take a walk along the bank.” She replied, trying to keep the feeling of adventure to her self.
“To the river it is then!”
She felt so happy. Her life was perfect.
