Carlisle boosted their hopes of a League One play-off place with an excellent 2-0 victory against fellow promotion hopefuls Tranmere.
Carlisle started well as Danny Graham netted from close range after being set up by Joe Garner on 10 minutes.
Tranmere piled on the pressure but paid the price for missing chances as Kevin Gall converted Carlisle's second on 67 minutes, after a Graham pass. United made it difficult for themselves as Paul Thirlwell was sent off after 83 minutes, but the visitors held on.
