Bit of html Help needed

Yeah I'll admit it, I sunk low enough to make a myspace.
But I'm trying to make it as less like myspace as possible. However I ran into a bit of trouble when designing it.

In the above image there is an area I've made grey, how can I make this image transparent so that it will go right through the original profile stuff and to the background OR insert an image instead of a plain colour that will go behind the boxes.
An example of what happens when I try to make the colour to 'none' (instead of the white/grey it is in the above image) is:

Now you're all probably going to say. LOL THE FIRST TIP IS TO NOT USE MYSPACE.
but yeah if you can offer any advice.
I'm not even sure if I've given you enough info.

Perhaps someone can give me a code that will hide/get rid of ALL of the original profile stuff.

I got one code that will hide it all but then my other new layers don't show.
