I was thinking of getting it done... my mum hasn't said yes yet, obviously but i'm almost certain I can convince her.

I'm just wondering though, how much will it affect my speech and for how long?

    (e.g, a lisp etc.)

I know it can vary from person to person, but from knowledge.. or even better, personal experience, what did it do to you?

mmhm, I was going to get this done, happy I did'nt now, I really dislike them! When I asked my mum she was like "gay men get that done to give oral" LOL and so I was like "oh I won't use it for that will I" LOL

My teacher has it done and he said that for about a week he could barely speak at all as his tongue was swollen and stuff, but after a few weeks everything was fine. He has a little bit of a lisp; I don't know if that was there before it got done or w/e but it isn't really that bad.

When I had mine it didn't affect my speech at all, and it was actually healed pretty quickly - I was luckily able to eat even very solid foods pretty much straight away. Some people it does vary, and it also depends on whether you make it worse for yourself or not.

If you get it done, don't talk too much for a few days, don't stick your tongue out to show people (if you just open your mouth they should be able to see if you really want to show it off) and no oral or kissing for a couple of weeks. Follow that and you should be fine. Swilling a salt water solution around your mouth a couple of times a day will also help, and there are some dodgy herbal pill things which you just hold on your tongue and let them dissolve, but I don't know how many piercing parlours would have them.

The only reaon I can think that it might affect your speech is if the bar's too big, and after a couple of weeks you go back and get it changed down anyway, so shouldn't be a problem really.

    Thanks guys!

I'm seriously considering it now, I already have a tiny bit of a lisp... and none of the Americans can understand what i'm saying anyway with my accent, so I might as well get it done now.

I'm not that bothered about pain, but how much does it hurt on a scale of 1-10 based on your experience, it wouldn't put me off getting it done, i'm just curious.

My teacher said it hardly hurt at all, just the initial (big) ouch and then throbbing pain but not major pain. However my friend who has got it fainted because of the pain, so I suppose it just depends on what you can handle x).

Yeah I have a pretty high pain tolerance, When I had my nose done (which they can't numb) I couldn't really feel it at all, it was more of a "wow, it's done already?" feeling.
Same with my other piercings, although i've never had anything quite as big as my tongue done.

Oh, and do they numb it?
