Before we begin: This is from personal expierience ONLY. It hasn't been tested or anything, these are mereley my own opinions and I would just like to share them.
Books
Books are an excellent way to get to sleep, they help you relax and put something on your mind. They are a sort of replacement for TV and have action in them, so keep you entertained. Lots of people go to sleep with hardly anything to think of, so reading books can, for example make you think what might happen if the story happened in real life. Some of the authors I would reccomend are:
Jacqueline Wilson
Roald Dahl
Anthony Horowitz
J.K Rowling
Enid Blyton.
Dont worry about things
Going to sleep is to make you RELAXED. Its when your body has a rest and repairs cells and stuff, and worrying will make you stay awake because your stomach will go all dodgySo do not worry, if you want to put your mind on something else, then read a book, or think of happy memories.
Relax
Try to pick up all the stuff on your head and fling them away, get into a comfy position and let your head sink into the pillow. Read a book or whatever, and imagine yourself in your favourate fantasy, and you'll soon drift off to sleep, most probably dreaming of that fantasy. If it's summer and it's too hot (Pfft, not gonna happen) then put on a fan, but have your duvet on you aswell. Seems strange but it helps you cool down put stay warm aswell. The noise of the fan shouldn't really be too much of a deal, but if it is, open a window.
Stay in bed!
Once you get into bed, stay there! Don't get up and switch a light off or something, ask for example your mum to switch it off when she comes to bed. Of course if nature calls, then go, don't want a puddle in your bed, do we?If you want a drink then again, ask someone to bring one up next time they nip to the loo or go to bed, if you do get up then you will most likely not be able to get back to the position you was in and then you probably won't be able to drift off as easy then!
Other
If someone makes a noise and wakes you up, or if you were JUST about to go to sleep and someone runs up the stairs, tell them to shut up, and go back to sleepy world. If it's summer and it's too hot (Pfft, not gonna happen) then put on a fan, but have your duvet on you aswell. Seems strange but it helps you cool down put stay warm aswell. The noise of the fan shouldn't really be too much of a deal, but if it is, open a window. Although it'll look childish and everything, if you have one, sleep with an early childhood teddy or something, your mates won't find out and it will remind you of the good old days when you didn't have a care in the world
I hope this helps people who are finding it hard to sleep at night. Happy dreaming :8
