Default Doctor Who: the return of Peter Davison!

The latest off the Doctor Who rumour mill, and it seems that Peter Davison is stepping back into the TARDIS...

For some of us of a certain age, Tom Baker and Peter Davison were the Doctor Whos that we grew up with. Allowing for the ropey special effects and the endless running down corridors, the pair were arguably the ones who saw the passing of the show from a popular sci-fi programme that punched above its weight, to the silliness that infested the Sylvester McCoy and particularly the Colin Baker years.

The point of this ramble is that it's now being reported that Peter Davison has been lured back to the TARDIS for a one-off special, believed to be for the BBC's Children in Need television bore-a-thon (although all in a good cause).

The rumours had started, bizarrely, through a conversation between Sylvester McCoy and Peter Jackson (yes, that Peter Jackson), with the former revealing the a double Doctor story was being planned for the fourth season of the new Doctor Who.

Since then, it's all but been confirmed that Davison is coming back, but it doesn't seem to be in a full episode. And it's not the first time Doctor Who has done Children In Need either - in the past, the charity appeal has put the likes of Hugh Grant, Richard E Grant, Rowan Atkinson and Joanna Lumley into the shoes of the Doctor.

We quite like the idea of a dual Doctor episode - even though history hasn't really been kind to previous attempts - so fingers crossed that Davison makes it into an episode of the series proper.

I read this in the paper a couple of weeks ago so thought I'd post it =] I think it should be interesting the Doctor meeting a past version of himself. If you've seen the old episode the five Doctors you'll agree it was a bit weird but hopefully this short appearence will be good =]

I’ll be a story in your head, but that’s okay, because we’re all stories in the end. Just make it a good one, eh? Because it was, you know. It was the best. A daft old man who stole a magic box and ran away. Did I ever tell you that I stole it? Well, I borrowed it. I always meant to take it back. Oh, that box, Amy, you’ll dream about that box. It’ll never leave you. Big and little at the same time. Brand-new and ancient and the bluest blue ever. And the times we had, eh? Would had…Never had. In your dreams, they’ll still be there. The Doctor and Amy Pond and the days that never came.
