    1 4/7 + 3 2/3

    Change it into a top heavy fraction:

    1 4/7 = 11/7
    3 2/3 = 11/3

    Convert the numerators to both be equal, and do the same thing to the denominator, in this case, we shall convert the numerator to 21.

    11/7 = 33/21
    11/3 = 77/21

    Add them, 33/21 + 77/21 = 110/21

    Now change it into a proper fraction

    21 x 5 = 105

    110 - 105 = 5

    Answer = 5 5/21

    Got bored so I thought I should post an explanation on how you do it. Hope you've learnt how ;]

    This way seems easier than the above imo... :

    1 4/7
    3 2/3

    3x7 = 21 (LCD)

    1 4/21
    3 2/21

    4x3 = 12
    2x7 = 14

    1 12/21
    3 14/21

    1+3 = 4

    12+14 = 26

    26/21 = 1 5/21
    4 + 1 = 5

    Answer = 5 5/21

    you find the lowest common multiple and make it into a top heavy fraction, then you simplify it so you have a whole number and a bottom heavy fraction
