    im not sure about your brit's definition of indie, but here's what's going on in our american indie scene. some of the most famous/popular indie albums include ones like;

    "in the aeroplane over the sea" by neutral milk hotel
    "daydream nation" by sonic youth
    "loveless" by my bloody valentine
    "funeral" by arcade fire
    pretty much everything by pavement
    "turn on the bright lights" by interpol

    and lots lots more.

    but my favorites include [not including the ones up there]:

    "chutes too narrow" by the shins
    "good news for people who love bad news" by modest mouse
    "who will cut our hair when we're gone?" by the unicorns
    "how it feels to be something on" by sunny day real estate
    "broken social scene" by broken social scene
    "illinoise" by sufjan stevens

    & a million more.

    ditto, ditto, ditto.

    my second favourite album of all time, in fact i may love it just as much a 'return of saturn' (my favourite, duh). from start to finish it's absolutely gorgeous, all 11 songs are AT LEAST an 8 out of 10 for me, 'untitled' never ceases to give me goosebumps . i think it's my favourite song ever.

    so yeah, in sum if you haven't heard buy it now (or download, whatever your choice).
