profile fields

so i want to add the profile fields public so when you view a thread, under each user u can see the option like this:

Gender: male

in postbit_legacy what is the input i have to put?

i thought it would be this:

Gender: $post[field5]

but only gender: shows and the field stays blank after, although the the gender should say male as i selected.

I've made sure the profile option has been filled.

Replace $post[field5] with 1 of them?

if so, tried em both no joy, i think pos5 was post5, tried that no joy.
