Quick Question

Right, one of my friends is doing a online radio, he is not doing it through a website or anything people need to tune in VIA windows Media player. I asked him how he is paying and apparently he isn't. He is not using shoutcast or anything and he says anyone who pays for radio hosting is getting ripped off. I showed him loads of sites were you can but shoutcasts and he keeps saying 'So i get unlimited users for free, better than 50 users for 3 pound 50'

Is this possible or is it illegal or what lol?

He could be doing a few things -
# Leaving his computer on forever and hosting it on his computer.
# Using a free shoutcast/icecast/anything of the such provider which involves ads.

That's all I can think of.
