To stall an automatic? My car stalled today, I gave it some gas to get it to change gears, and it turned off? Some lights on the dash lit up and it wouldn't start again when I tried it (probs because it wasn't in park). It's working fine now, but I wouldn't want it to happen on the highway.

Is this normal, or should I get it checked?

You shouldnt be able to stall it, as you cant apply too much clutch for the power being given out by the engine...

They can stall on their own if there is an issue with the engine though..

I've never heard of it. It might be better to get it checked out if any further problems like this persist.

It sounds like a good idea! I want a standard, but I think once I graduate I will lease a new car.

The voyager my mum has used to clonk out of gear randomly when it went down the slope from the drive onto the road (about2 or 3 feet drop). It would be in Drive but refuse to move. Not sure how you could stall it though.

It could be electricals or transmission, if it's a one off you might be alright but if it's repetitive you should take it to a garage.

Its quite easy to stall an automatic actually. However, the engine could easily of been cold, and with it being a new car (?) it would have an automatic choke (helps it start), the choke could easily of failed, leading it to conk out.
