    I have a yamaha 250. It's old-school but it's so rad. Only cost around 500 AUD

I wanted one for xmas, as well as my big pink malibu- it's great.

Well, my Yamaha 250 is totally road worthy. I suggest going for something a little more powerful than a 125- depending on how much land you have and where you're planning to ride it (if on road, defs consider it).
I say go for a nice second-hand'er. I looked on bikepoint.com.au (maybe not .au) for my bike, but that's AU based only. So I suggest you google for a similar site wherever you live and take a look around in your price range.
