Sarkozy: We are stronger together

President Nicolas Sarkozy has said France and Britain have "never been so close", during an historic address to both houses of the UK Parliament.

He said he wanted a new Franco-British "brotherhood", saying that what brought Britain and France together was "stronger than what separates us".

His country would "never forget" what British people did to "free France" during the world wars, he said.
Peers and MPs gave him a standing ovation following the speech in French.

Mr Sarkozy said France and Britain were stronger side by side, and the world admired the UK's "courage".

'Sensitivities' on Europe

He urged both countries to "overcome our long-standing rivalries and build together a future that will be stronger because we will be together".

Instead of the famed "Entente Cordiale", he said there should now be an "Entente Amicale", marking the friendship of the two nations.


Whould have to agree with him there. In 1800 Britain and France did not get along with each other. In the early 1900, they "united" with each other. That was key, to the win over Germany. I believe if the two countries never united, Germany Now will still be ruling the world.


This Relationship, i believe is real, as they are in talks to pump 1000 French Troops in Iraq.

In Britain's case that means the EU tells us what do to, not the other way around. Personally I think we should work together more but only if France respect our boundarys and our rights. I like Sarkozy as he has right-wing policies but sadly is all for the EU. We can work together with the Republic of France without the EU. It is easy for them to say we should join the EU even more and not opt-out of some of it's policies - but then again we pay far more money into the EU and are often ignored.
