Default Wounded Iraqi Civilian in £2M payout

    http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/7347691.stm

I think it's very sad that someone in the Army dropped the gun and it went off and hit a teenager who had some reasonably serious injuries, it might be permanent though. However I don't think you should give compensation and payouts to people in a time of war, war just wouldn't be feasable if you had to give payouts to everyone. It's a factor that's civilians do get injured, but you take the risk going into the war. I do oppose the war in Iraq but I don't think you should give payouts to civilians, and nothing on his scale.

It's just pathetic our government could be so silly, we give about £100,000 to our soldiers who lose all their limbs in the Iraqi war, they cannot do anything for themselves or get another source of income and must live off 100k, but instead a random teenager gets 2 million pounds for life, not only can he live off that, but he can live off that really nicely!

I can't believe we're even compensating him in the first place though it is very sad, and then we give about 20 times what some of ours have been paid!

I find the English governent quite sad, it has its priorities wrong, instead of paying for its own citizens it is paying money to Wales, scotland and now this huge amount of money, when you have soldiers out there who get much less. The whole thing is messed up

P.S dont think I hate wales and scotland or anything its just I dont agree with wales getting free prescriptions and all that when England dont, but thats a thread for another day

Basically i think this is stupid. The soldiers who are fighting on the front line would get less for risking their lives <

I think the difference is that British soldiers join the army voluntarily (as far as I know) and Britain started the war by (illegally) invading Iraq, while Iraqi civilians never asked to be occupied by a foreign power...

sierk makes a good point, but this sum is still too large in my opinion.

It's war, things like this happen. It's disgusting though, if one of our soldiers is injured/killed, they/their families get hardly any compensation.
