Default New ISP, are these speeds any good?

Just got virgin media this morning, the server exchange is right outside our house. We got told that within the next 4 months our 4mb max will be going up to 10mb.

This is not a brag thread, I was just wondering...

Is this a good speed? When we were with BT Internet we were getting 0.5 - 0.9 download speeds. Pretty poor. Just wondering if these are good speeds? Im not very big on the ISP front.

It's reasonable, mine is close to 5,000 kb/s download speed which is seems good enough, so that will be reasonable too

Well if you're on the 4mb service which you say you are, and are on ADSL, that's a pretty darn good speed. I'd say that you'd be able to get the full 10mb when you get upgraded

    Mines 8mb, with o2.

and I live around 3 miles from the exchange, so I get around 5.5 MB, I'd say you're getting a bad deal, until your on 10mb. 5.5 is just about able to use for me.

VM does not do 8MB do they?
    I though they did 2, 4 and (10 or 20)

You can find out your speed by connecting to your VM box by going your cable box address: http://192.168.100.1 username and password are both root or admin i cant remember

    Edit:

Here is TalkTalks 'up to' 8MB

The speed's are not correct on the router, you have to measure them yourself correctly.
