Default bmi have gone into liquidation

Budget airline bmi which offers flights from London Heathrow to destinations within the UK and USA has gone into liquidation today with debts of £64 million.

The airline was launched in 1938, this morning’s flight from Durham Tees Valley to Heathrow landed as normal, but all the airline’s flights have now been suspended.

Few airlines have attempted to lower its prices this summer, but as a result bmi has been another victim of the soaring fuel prices. It offered one way flights from Heathrow to destinations within the uk for as little as around £65 one way or £150 return.

With such low prices passenger numbers are believed to have been healthy, with occupancy levels at around 70 to 80%. But now rising fuel prices and increased competition appear to have taken their toll.

They have been appointed as liquidators and bmi is reported to be optimistic that a new investor will come forward to save the airline.

That's very very strange as bmi have special fares in place for XL customers.

Following the suspension of XL’s operations, bmi is offering XL customers partway through their holidays the opportunity to re-book at a special reprotection one way fare on available bmi services from:

    Florida
    Caribbean
    Israel
    Turkey
    Jordan
    Majorca
    Egypt

To rebook please contact our call centre on the numbers below. Proof of purchase with XL will be required.

This isn't even happening is it.

    1. I checked over 3 aviation related websites, no news about BMI going.

    2. Their website has no information

    3. No News on BBC.

    4. There flights are still leaving Manchester.

So unless you prove any proof then this isn't happening.

SAS won't go and I highly doubt Lufthansa will either.
