I've made a partition for it to go on, do I need to format it? If so should it be NTFS or FAT32 and what should the allocation unit size be?

    Thanks.

5-10GB should be enough, I think it depends on the Linux Distro, but Ubuntu automatically formats for you (And partitions too if need be).
