I need xbox live help

hi guys,
i dont know what is wrong i just got my xbox today and when i test xbox live connections it comes up with this:

IP Adress - Confirmed
DNS - Confirmed
MTU - Confirmed
ICMP - Confirmed
XBOXLIVE - FAILED

but before it says xboxlive failed and update comes up when i try do the update the update fails i realy need help and im an idiot so could you please explain as easy as possible

When i was upstairs earlier it wouldnt connect
i think it could be that people getting 360 for christmas and every1 connecting at the same time causing it to crash
