    Default £632 build

    Hey, once again thinking of getting a new PC. It's either this or an iMac, which would cost £1000, which would take a few more months to save for. I'm unsure what I can get for around the £600 mark. Is this any good - This is from Meshcomputers.com;

    • AMD Phenom 9950 Black Edition Quad Core Processor AM2+ (2.6GHz, 4MB Cache, 2000MHZ) [upg £ 20.00]
    • Genuine Windows Vista™ Home Premium with Service Pack 1, 64-bit - English
    • New Stylish Mini-Tower Micro ATX Chassis with 550W PSU - Piano Black [upg £ 25.00]
    • ASUS M2N68-VM - AMD HDMI-DVI Mainboard, AMD Socket AM2+ - Micro ATX
    • 8192MB 800MHz Dual Channel DDR2 SDRAM - (4 x 2GB) [upg £ 50.00]
    • 500GB Serial ATA Hard Drive with 16MB Buffer
    • Samsung 22x Dual Layer DVD Writer Super Format +R/-R/RW/RAM
    • 256MB NVIDIA GeForce GPU with HDMI - Integrated Graphics (SMA)
    • 22" Iiyama ProLite E2208HDS-1 (1920x1080) Full HD Monitor (DVI,VGA,WS,Spkrs - 5ms)
    • 52-in-1 Multi-format Memory Card Reader (matx)
    • 7.1 High Definition onboard sound card - for 8 Channel Cinema sound
    • Logitech Desktop Keyboard & Optical Mouse
    • Free Microsoft® Works® 8.5 + Limited Microsoft Office Trial
    • Free Cyberlink Video Editing Suite - 7 titles (oem)
    • 1 Year Hardware Warranty - Return to Base Parts and Labour (UK Mainland only)

Anything I should / could change. I want this to be good for the future and a long period of times' usage. Thanks.
EDIT: Btw, Black Edition AMD is for overclocking, which I am thinking about. Unfortunatley, the site never gave me an option for different fans other than the default. Any advice?

Even if you're not going to be gaming or doing anything graphically intensive i'd advise staying away from an integrated graphics card, even if you just get a fairly cheap dedicated one.

Other than that it looks good. I'd probably want faster RAM if i was having 8Gb, but it's personal preference really.

Not DDR3 RAM, IMO there is nothing wrong with DDR2 800MHz here.

Try and go for an Nvidia 9800GT or, if your not gaming, a 9600GS or something.

    Also try out www.pcspecialist.co.uk

PCSpecialist seems expensive to me. Any other recommendations?

It's alright. As posted above, the graphics card isn't the best but I guess everyone has to compromise on something. Price seems a little high though.. I'd have thought more like £450 for that machine, unless the monitor is £180ish...

I assume you need a monitor at the moment, hence why there's one on that order, but double check prices at other sites www.ebuyer.com for example. Don't assume because you're making a big order they'll not charge you over the odds for a display unit, because they do. I'd be tempted to have a quick look for a smaller but faster HD too.

I have a similar but slightly less high spec'd machine as you've posted and am very happy with it. Quadcore Phenom processors are good.
