Default Foxconn ups compensation to family of employee

Engadget have been following this story and every time they post it seems to get a little stranger. For those who don't know, a guy was given an iPhone prototype to test and he lost it. Foxconn, the company for which he worked, interrogated and did nasty things to him, he got a bit narked and threw himself off a building. Here's the latest post:

Foxconn hasn't exactly been helping itself much lately in the sad case of an employee of the company who committed suicide after apparently misplacing an iPhone prototype, with it first noting that the worker had a history of misplacing such prototypes, and then going on to offer his family a rather meager compensation of $44,000 and a free Apple laptop. It now looks to be trying to improve things somewhat, however, with a Foxconn official saying that the company has now agreed to pay Sun Danyong's parents 360,000 yuan (or about $52,600) in compensation up front, plus an additional 30,000 yuan (or $4,385) every year thereafter. Of course, that official is speaking on the condition of anonymity, so things could still well change, and it goes without saying that this likely won't be the last we hear of this story.
What gets me is the original compensation offer which was $44k and a free apple laptop. Surely the apple laptop is just rubbing salt in the wound?

Just an apple laptop? I would expect a top of the range Mac Pro with a 30" screen. >:[! But on a serious note; That does suck bad.

No it isn't, they can't get anything else apart from possibly more cash/products. No one can bring their son back to life and so they have to take whatever they can from the company that caused the death.
