Default my laptop got the BSoD

yesterday i turnt my laptop on only to be confronted with the blue screen of death with the error "unmountable_boot_volume". I think there's something up with my hard drive, but im not too sure. Is there anything I can do to fix it, because i don't want to have to pay for it to be repaired if i can do it myself. My laptop's an acer aspire 5920, i don't have any recovery cds for it or anything - i've already tried to return the laptop to its factory settings, but that doesn't seem to work anymore.

    +rep for help

Download a Vista CD or something from somewhere, boot from it and reinstall, sounds like a fubar'd HDD.

I think the hard drive itself might actually be dead, it's been making these weird noises for about a week. where about would i download a vista cd? i've googled acer recovery cds but all the websites seem to charge for them
