    Default Temps

    Hi,

Finished my first build the other day and noticed my CPU is getting mega hot. All I'm using atm is Spotify and Firefox.

    It's a Q8200 using stock cooler and paste/compound/whatever.

I'm gonna buy some Arctic Silver 5 thermal paste and in a week or so a different CPU cooler. Are the temps atm gonna cause any long-term damage?

    Cheers

You are forgetting, those are the temperatures when his processor is pretty much idle. They are going to shoot up into the 80's when at load whilst playing a game or something.

Is the heatsink seated properly? Put it under 100% load for a bit and see how hot it gets.

What is the case like? Airflow etc?

I wouldn't trust speedfan either. Get a real CPU monitor such as CoreTemp.

Bottom line to answer your question, no. There will be no problems, unless you get into a highly graphic game/program that requires more cpu.

Thanks for replies guys. Tbh, I'm not too bothered for now as I'll be ordering new paste and a new CPU cooler next week anyway - so I suppose it'll do til then. I won't be doing anything except browsing and office for now anyway
