I have a HP Pavilion DV2000 notebook for the past three/four years my laptop has done me proud and has worked with hardly any problems. I did notice during these years that it did seem to get amazingly hot on the left hand side of the keyboard and base. At the time I searched google and found this to be a known issue with a lot of other Dv2000 owners so wasn't to concerned.

My problems started on Sunday when I left my laptop switched on and came back 30 mins later to find it had been turned off. At the time I blamed my mum thinking she turned it off for some reason but soon found this was not the case when it turned itself off again later on that evening when I was in the middle of doing nothing more demanding than writing a document on MS Word.

The problem got worse on Monday evening when I was again writing up a Word Document when my laptop turned itself off again but this time on reboot the screen was covered with multiple coloured lines and at certain points the screen seemed to be 'tiled' so I could see like six windows splash screens loading .....

Eventually my laptop would make it to my desktop where the lines and weird multi screens would vanish to make the desktop seem perfectly normal... I managed to use my laptop without any problems for the rest of the evening so assumed whatever my laptop was crying about had fixed itself....

Tuesday soon rolled round I booted my laptop up no coloured lines or strange screens visable so I was happy my reliable laptop seemed to be back to normal... an hour passed this time I was only listening to music on Itunes when the screen goes black leaving only the cursor visable... my only option was to reboot this time on reboot full screen was multi coloured....

Since tuesday I have to rely on luck either I switch it on and I get a mass array of coloured lines or it starts up as normal and switches its self off after an hour or two...

My friends suggest that this is probably down to the laptops age but my only doubt is that this seemed to happen over night one day its working and the next I'm getting weird lines and constant power loss..... could this be down to the three years damage caused by the massive heat problem or what?

Is there also anything I can do to stop this happening or in your expert HxF opinions is it time I laid the thing to rest and bought a new one?
