That video is absolutely hilarious on the BBC. The ridiculous comments the two of them making are pure comedy. You even hear the guy calling 999 'Coppers are getting crushed!!' lmao. It's made my day.
But yeah... shame about the lights turn-on.
With those sort of bands and performers playing, it was going to happen whether they perfected the planning or not :/
It's a public area, anyone is welcome to come and go as they please, there was no way to control the crowds. It would be like having multiple bands playing at a ticketed concert/gig, but for free and anyone to watch. In a small area like that, it's the planners fault for having too many performers with big fan bases in one area.
They should just stick to local performers, famous or non-famous ones, and just hope that big surges of people don't come out.
Considering the lights have to be switched on in the High Streets, you can't even divert people to local parks or open grounds, unless they televised the light switch on with a crowd just going to see that, and another crowd watching the performances?
they assumed 5,000 people to come and see JLS, it's not rocket science
