Exclamation Windows 7 Help needed please :)

What the difference between a "Libraries" & "Ryan" on windows 7?

What can the "Libraries" do? also can anyone access my libraries which is basically all my files who have w7 installed on my network? or is it private?

Libraries are like folders, for My Documents, Music etc., but, for e.g. the Music library is a collection of music folders, by default on your W7 install it would be c:\Users\Ryan\Music and c:\Users\Public\Public Music.

Also, Libraries are private unless you setup Homegroups.

"Ryan" is your User area, where the computer stores shortcuts to these folders, libraries, your favourites, Desktop icons, application data etc etc.

Like here is my Documents library:

This is quite an interesting thread, thanks for bringing it up Just another thing which came to my attention with 7...

When you open up Windows Media Player (not sure about Windows Media Centre), the PC appears on Vista and 7 as a Media Device. How do you turn this off? I am fairly sure it's a feature in Windows Media Player, but I have Tune-up Utilities working which disabled this, but for future reference it may be of use, particularly to Experting if privacy is a concern

Simple solution: Go on another 7 or Vista machine, go to Network and see if it appears It's what I did - my PC appears, but when you click it opens to a blank page with nothing on there Some machines prompt a passwork too.

But generally, as Recursions said, it should be private by default unless you're set up home group. Unticking everything in HomeGroup also solves this.

Start > Control Panel > Change advanced sharing settings > Home or Work > Untick/tick what you want, this should also solve your Media thing Gomme.

This setup means that computers can see my computer, but to access any files on it they have to use a username and password that is setup on the computer as a normal user account and it won't share any media.
