Default Time to reduce the forum size?

I have seen less and less people using the forum and also less and less posts expecially any ones that mean anything. General Discussion even has been reduced down to What would you do if.. threads which would probably be better suited to the spam forum.

My point is that there are so many catagories for everything that to check on posts and browsing around takes longer than needed when actually most of the catagories get no more than one new thread (or post even in some of them) per day.
Like why does the forum need a Writing and Literature forum? Theres only ever been 62 threads posted in there ever, why not merge it with another forum? And all sports to animals and pets forums, why not just make one forum called hobbies? it would simplify it and tbh they don't have so many 10s of new threads a day that would clutter up even one page.

Just my suggestions to make the forum easier to use and seem a little more active than it is.

I like the idea about transforming "Writing & Literature" to "hobbies" as "hobbies" was removed from "Sports & Hobbies"

The discuss anything threads "what if you..." etc are actually good discussion, and certainly shouldnt be classed as spam

yes thats also a great idea.

Like forum graphics is in a totally different catagory to request a graphic/avatar/sig. They could all be put into one.

I think the categories still work out well. Making things too general may promote disucssion even less for specific topics, and certain newer members may get confused where to look for specifics. My view anyway, I think my merging things we don't have that much to gain.

While it could be a good idea, I agree with Grig as it could end up just confusing newer members. If would be rather annoying if most of your interests happened to all be sub-forums within forums. Also you would need to be careful with some sections, for example I don't think merging Sport with anything is a good idea as that section holds a regular group of members and the topic of Sport is already a pretty broad one. However it could be a good idea in narrower sections such as Writing & Literature as you mentioned.

I have to agree regarding the graphics forums though. Most people request signature in Forum Graphics then the actual sub-forum for it.

This is what happens when a forum tries to accommodate too many varieties of members. People end up finding they're better off in a smaller forum aimed at just their individual interests. Possibly a good idea to tone down the forum's target audience since there are some it caters for which there are very few members of - If you get my drift...

If you looked closely the sports section is crap however it's not that crap to deserve being merged. *Removed*
