Default Decent surround sound for under £200?

I'm looking to get a new surround system, to link in to my Samsung LE19R86 TV. I'm not sure whether I could get away with just a speaker system, and keep my existing Samsung R128 DVD recorder, or whether I'd be better off getting a home cinema system. My existing surround sound system, a Durabrand 5.1 speaker set, is linked into my DVD recorder.

One more thing, the subwoofer and (if I get one) the DVD unit must ideally be no deeper than 35cm. My shelf won't take anything bigger. I'd ideally like all this for under £200. Any suggestions?

You should put the subwoofer somewhere on the floor, not on a shelf (unless you like your TV and everything else vibrating all the time). For £200 you're going to have to look at a entry level all in one package.

If I had room on the floor, I would. The room its going in is tiny, tbh.

    Any suggestions on a package?

I say Logitech Z5500s if the room is fairly small.

Forget that Sony. The reviews on Amazon are terrible. And it only does surround sound on DVD. I need surround sound on main TV.

Pos> Really wanted 5.1 if I'm honest with you. Plus tall speakers wouldn't fit in my room. The speakers I have currently are on shelves.

    Recursion> The z5500's look good, but they're £250.

BTW, guys, for ones with DVD players, would like one with 1080p upscaling if possible
