Default Posting in the Debate Forum...

Please do not make any short pointless comments like "It's wrong" or "I agree" etc. If you would like to agree / disagree with a point someone has made in the thread, make sure you back up your point with the reasons for your opinion.
That rule/guideline is fair enough, as it's a debate forum, but if somebody has made a post, like me, shown below (without even realising that this was a rule anyway), I don't think it should be usernote/warning/infraction worthy, that's not really fair at all. :S

    My post was...
I want UKIP to win the next General Election.
    Followed up by...
    I got...

    Labour 28%
    Conservative 62%
    Greens 35%
    LibDem 36%
    UKIP 77%

    So yeah, UKIP please.
So yeah, should just be a guideline.

I don't think it should just be a guideline but I agree with you that it shouldn't be infraction/warning worthy. A user note will suffice.

All you recieved was a PM telling you you had broken debate rules.

It needs to be highlighted that usernotes are not punishments but a vital record of a users mishaps, for instance if you were to now go on and post an unsubstantiated message in debates another five or six times, we would have previous ones as evidence that you'd done it before, so if you do it repeatedly we can then punish you, which is what the moderator meant by:

If you continue to break this rule then further action will be taken against your account which could result in restricted access to the Debate forum
A lot of people don't grasp the fact that usernotes are simply a record for moderators and are in no way a punishment. We need to keep a record for reasons stated above.

You have not been punished, I hope this clears it up?

Yeah, but as far as i'm aware, one of those PMs is always followed up by a usernote, unless things have changed since I was a Moderator.

Oh, and I have been punished, because next time (if it were to happen by accident or otherwise), it will go straight to a warning. Think of it as lives, you get 3 of them, i've just lost one.

    It's not an infractable/warnable offence.

If you did it again, you would be PM'd again.

If you did it a lot of times in a short space of time (say a month), you'd probably recieve a 24 hour ban from debates or something.

It's like with pointless posting, only serial offenders are punished, if not a serial spammer it's just a polite PM each time

Just to add, usernotes are used to ban. Ban is a punishment. They are used as punishments. They shouldn't be. They are.

It is silly lets be honest, maybe a persistant offender is deserving of whatever a usernote is, but certainly not in this case. Are moderation reports still based on how many infractions/usernotes/warnings have been given out by each moderator? - if its still like that, then theres the problem.

    No they are not.

May I ask how we keep track of repetitive offenders if we don't make a record somewhere?

That is the purpose of usernotes and i will reiterate: usernotes are not a punishment in any way shape or form.

I think moderators should have their own forums again, so they are familiar with that forum and can use judgement like a human being does rather than what I see as robot-like handing out of warnings, infractions and usernotes. If what Jake says is correct in that usernotes are used to ban then they are a punishment.

EDIT: It appears they do, oh well it's all very confusing - the bottom line is we need judgement to play a part in moderation.
