Hair Dye

I'm thinking about dying my hair black with a tint of something, either blue or purple. Because at the moment it's a natural dark brown, only I want it to have some colour in the sunlight.
I've researched hair dyes, and apparently there have been 2 cases where the Loreal brand of hair dyes have caused severe allergic reactions, like whole face swelling up and the head changing shape, which weirds me out.
I'm not allergic to anything (that I know of), but I'm still worried. My sister and my mum dye their hair all the time and they're fine, but can anyone recommend any good brands, and even places to buy from?

And also tell me, for this sort of dye, for it to like show colour in sunlight, do I need to lighten it first?

Well firstly I guess those two were just unlucky! Just make sure you the the test before you use it even though I've dyed my hair 40+ times without ever doing it Well if your worried about it why not go to a hair salon?

I'd recommend not using the shops hair dyes, and getting it permed at the hair dressers instead. You have to have a test done before hand anyway, they just smear a bit of the dye behind your ear, if it comes out in a rash, then you cannot dye it as your allergic.

My friend dyed her hair and had a really bad allergic reaction, face swelling up and everything.

She's had a few tests and found out that she's allergic to "paraphenylenediamine" which is pratically in all dark hair dyes. Problem is, she never did a skin test before hand. If she'd done a skin test then she'd have realised it wouldn't be a good idea to dye her hair and wouldn't have ended up with a swollen face.

My advice, ALWAYS do a skin test before hand.
