I think the 'OS' style sub-forums in Technology Discusion should be abolished. They're starting to die (especially the linux one).
    Maybe have Prefixes instead?

Interesting suggestion, let's see what other members of the tech section think

I agree, hardly ever any posts in those sub-forums

Agreed. Unfortunately there's no longer a need for any of these sections, it would be more beneficial just to have the one Tech forum.

I think the OS's really have to go they're inactive, but the portable devices forum is still quite active so no reason for that to go?

I would also agree to getting to rid of the OS ones (At the very least the Linux one which is yet to get a post during 2010).

I don't tend to look in the sub-forums and I'm getting tired of making threads which are moved into the sub-forums.

Another good point. Less threads will have to be moved by moderators by merging.

Sounds like a reasonable idea. The amount of sub-forums in there remove any reason to post in the main forum - there's only ever threads about making computers, or Tech help. So it sounds like a decent idea. Worth trialing.

I think Apple should remain, it's a bit more active and at the very least keeps the mac/ pc flamewares at bay most of the time. Other than that I agree with removing linux (perhaps merge it with apple so it can be Apple + other OSs) and keeping portable devices.

I like this idea too. I guess the general consensus here is that the Linux forum must die
