Default Failed asylum seeker who killed father-of-two while driving illegally gets 9 months

A failed asylum seeker who killed a father-of-two while driving without a licence or insurance was jailed for just nine months today.

Delshad Aziz, 28, was working illegally for a furniture removals company when he drove his van into Anthony Edney last year.

Mr Edney, 44, was catapulted off his scooter and died in hospital of a ruptured artery shortly after the crash.

Today his heartbroken wife Maria expressed her anger at the length of the sentence and demanded Aziz be sent straight back to Iraq.

However, Aziz will almost certainly be able to stay in the UK when he is released because the judge did not issue a deportation order with the jail sentence.

The Iraqi is then expected to continue his appeal against his failed asylum application - a process which is notoriously slow.

Speaking after the sentencing hearing, Mrs Edney, 40, called for a change in the law to end asylum rights for criminals.

'Nine months is nothing and he will only do half of that,' she said.

'I want to see the law changed so that anyone who applies for asylum can be deported straight away if they are convicted of an offence.

'I do not want him sitting in a British prison cell being looked after by the taxpayer while I have to look at my children suffering every day, crying for their daddy.

'We were paying him benefits even though he had been rejected for asylum and he was still working illegally. Someone let him behind the wheel without checking out his background.

'This has had an awful effect on our family, all because of a man who shouldn't have been driving.'

Mrs Edney, who lives in Portslade, East Sussex, with their children Kieran, four, and Jade, seven, described her husband as a 'devoted father' who put his family before everything else.

Disgusting, absolutely disgusting. Makes me feel sick. Not only does he get to stay in the UK whilst appealing his failed asylum application, but he also only gets 9 months for killing that man and having no licence or insurance.

He should be deported and not have the chance to claim asylum...

Why are these people even here out on our streets? - I mean, it defies belief really. But dont worry kids! - after 13 years of being in office and now facing electoral defeat, the Labour Party have announced proposals to tackle immigration and its negative effects!

I’ve seen similar stories to this, and I sympathize with the wife and her family. Of course they want justice, and rightly so.

No doubt he will write to his friends, telling them he’s got a roof over his head, gets fed 3 times a day, and at no cost.

No, you are British, you are not an asylum seeker or immigrants so you don't get special treatment.

My dad listens to the radio a lot and he is always telling me about similar things. Two off the top of my head are a couple of illegal immigrants came to the UK and got jobs etc. but now they've lost them and they're sleeping rough, so they handed themselves in but they can't be deported because they have no passports as proof. Also another immigrant was breaking the law on purpose just to be sent to jail because our jails are a better quality of life than in their home country.

    Oh, look at this: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/arti...psy-camps.html

Good on the Italians. If we were to do that we'd be called racist and a bunch of other names under the sun.

Well done Italy I am very very impressed and think we could learn a thing or 2 from them. Just a shame they rounded them up before they started the fires. thats a fairly old story though but every little helps.

    The thing is, we can keep deporting the immigrants but they're just going to keep coming back in for as long as we're in the EU, it's a never ending game. Just shows how easy it is;
