Hey,

Does putting tinfoil around your router antenna boost your internet or is it just a joke?

im not sure however its metal and metal absorbes tht sorta thing so maybe?

Wrapping tinfoil around the router antenna will -NOT- boost the signal, more like kill it. Using it as a reflector to make the signal more directional can boost your signal (I have done this before, I know it works, but not significantly better).

Such as this:


Make sure there is no conductor touching the actual antenna itself.

Don't wrap it around. Use it as like a curved mirror to reflect in the direction you want more signal.

Tin foil doesn't absorb waves, it reflects them. therefore it wouldn't make your signal stronger; it'd make your signal worse. This is why tin foil is used to keep food warm, because the heat particles are still contained by the tinfoil.

If you use a curved mirror (as suggested) this will direct your signal to the antenna making your signal stronger - but not by much.
