Good book like Eragon?

I'm quite the fan of stories set a long time ago, with magic, battles and whatnot. What are some good books other than Eragon to check out (preferably long books, or with many in a series)!

I'm reading a set of books about magic, darkness, necromancy, battles etc and they're pretty good. Not sure whether the series has a name, but the author is called Garth Nix and the first book in the series is called 'Sabriel'. I certainly recommend them as they aren't all that long.
