Default Is Coming Out a Career Killer?

I was just amazed when I read this article. Perhaps I am being naive but I thought homophobia in employment was something that was left in the 20th Century.

This article shocked me a bit although I found this paragraph showed some have come a long way :

A survey by the University of Staffordshire found that 93% of football fans disapproved of homophobic abuse, and 60% believed gay footballers should come out. What will it take for someone to take that step? "Guarantees: from their club, that they will be supported and not sold, support from the fans and from commercial endorsements. The main obstacle is that football is entrenched in homophobia.

Do you think the prejudice is still bad today? I hope not!

It's not homophobia from staff colleagues, it's from the fans at the football matches.

Only gay footballer I know of is that black dude who committed suicide in the late 90s, and I only know of him because he killed himself.
