    Default increased avatar size

im sorry but if someone is on internet that cannot support file sizes higher than 58.6 KB then there is something wrong. im guessing this was introduced when people still used dial up? I tried to upload a new rihanna avatar and i couldn't!!!!!!!!!!!!

im not asking for it to be dramatically increased
    just something likee 200kb (h)

I was thinking that, I had to reduce the quality of mine to upload it

I don't see a problem with this if a plausible figure can be suggested

anything between 100-200kb seems reasonable to me.

Won't changing it have a pretty big effect on the forum's bandwidth though?
If not/you don't mind, then I agree with Jamesy.

Although, I just had a look at all of my avatar-sized pictures on my laptop, 90% of them were much lower than 58.6kb, so it's already perfectly possible to have a decent avatar without going over the limit.

Although true, most browsers cache images in some way or another. I'd say 100kb is more than sufficient, rethinking my suggestion above.

what you could do (if you introduce this rise) is just have an option to hide avatars and signatures for people who do not want to see them (so not hiding youre own more hiding other peoples).

Animated GIF images take up more space A small avatar would be about 30.9 kB (going from Jamesy's). Lower the quality as you do with any animated GIF would lower it to about 15 kB, then add other images to make the animated GIF and you're over the limit 100 kB or just under would be fine though, too much and you might experience problems.

Yes, although most major browsers just cache these images, where as some images (such as the one in my signature for example) are generated on pageload therefore cannot be cached!

I don't know if its possible to do it, but what if you make the browser do all the "hard work"? Its the data: tag thing.. Not sure if it is possible, so if it isn't ignore this
