Default What Newspapers do you read and why? What influence do they have on you?

I usually read the independent although I like to keep abreast with the Guardian and Times as well.
Do you think that newspapers influence us to a great extent in our thinking. I feel that in these times their influence is perhaps too great and the way they spin 'facts' and what they don't tell us is maybe more important than what they do.

Daily Mail, Daily Telegraph, often the Daily Express and sometimes the News of the World/the Mirror. I don't think they influence our thinking no, people buy papers because they agree with them - for example I would never buy or be interested in buying the Guardian because I disagree with just about everything it says (especially Polly Toynbee). This country is right-wing and you can see this reflected in newspaper sales (which can be found on wikipedia) because of the simple fact that all the top selling newspapers (with the exception of the Daily Mirror) are to the right and not to the left - the option to buy left leaning newspapers is there and has always been there, but I rarely see them about because of low demand. Even in Liverpool the likes of the Mail sell very well.

The Mail for example follows a pro-Conservative Party line (although that has slipped over the past year), however if you read a lot of comments on the Mail website you will find most people only voted Conservative 'to keep Labour out' and a large majority now regret it. So I don't think they have much influence on us - when people go to buy a newspaper they have a wide choice and they make their choice depending on what newspaper they agree with the most.

I like the Mail mainly for its comments (online), Richard Littlejohn & Peter Hitchens. I like the Telegraph mainly for its blogs (Lord Tebbit, Daniel Hannan) and its coverage of Europe which is far better than that of the Mail which tends to focus more on immigration.

I don't read any newspapers as I find them over-exaggerated and riddled with bias and I don't really care about all the little stories they report on as most of them are making a big deal out of nothing. The BBC News is good enough for me, as they tackle their stories with a nice level-headed approach.

Don't read them. I just stick to the televised news and read the sources of which I contribute journalism to.

I read the Daily Record. It's more of a Scottish Paper but still covers the world and UK news

I read a couple of newspapers, especially when I've got nothing to do in my frees at school. Mainly the Time, Guardian, Independent and the daily mail.

the new york times. they're very liberal but they're the most honest journalists out there.

ill never watch 24 hour news networks. while newspapers always have to widdle down their stories in order to fit what's most important, 24 hour news networks have to find garbage and make it seem important in order to fill 3/4ths of their day.

None, the majority of press in this country is gutter work. Piers Morgan made that point clear.

I don't read any, except my local newspaper occasionally
I prefer to watch the news, mainly because I don't live in a place where you can buy newspapers easily - I'm aware most of their content is now available online but for me it's easier to watch the news (especially newround, news in a format I can understand )
