Default Cliffhangers - Ends 9th August

    Code: Christmas dinner

Cliffhangers are evil little moments which occur at the end of many books, films and television programmes. They leave the characters of the story in a sticky situation where numerous things could happen to them and then cut scene leaving us wondering what could happen next, they often fill my mind with many ideas of a possible outcome. For this competition you will need to write a small story featuring as many characters as you like and end the story with a cliffhanger. The person who I feel has written the most interesting story and left their characters in an jaw dropping ending will win.

    Prize: 1 month VIP + 30 rep

It was a myth that the loch ness monster existed, it was a myth zombies were impossible...

    UNTIL NOW.

    5:18am
I awoke from my bed hearing the screams of civilians within my village the imagery i saw was deeply frightening and to that point i just watched, scared and unable to move.

    5:28am
As I watched I noticed one of the zombies looked up in a mechanical movement and started growling at me with their blood-lusted eyes and grey/green skin. they started colonizing against my property and in a few minutes there were hundreds. I could hear them moaning and banging against the window's. I knew they would get in sooner or later. but I wasn't thinking clearly as it was so early in the morning, I paused for a second to reflect my idea and make sure that if taking information from a movie was plausible or stupid. Well, I was about to find out.
    5:45am
I wasted no time, Using the knowledge of zombie movies i watched i grabbed any weapon that was sharp enough to pierce through the hollow mind of the flesh eating zombies. I got supplies of food, medicines and anything other i can find and exited through the back door. However i wasn't expecting to get away without at least one zombie spotting me. and If one spotted me, they all would. as soon as I opened the door the zombies turned to me and started running at this point i was overcome with fear as i try to get into my car. as i was fiddling with the keys they came closer I opened my door but they all grabbed it like it was the last chicken leg on the plate. I couldn't stop them. they started to devour my warm, fleshy skin as I watched them eat away at my lower body I realized something, ZOMBIE MOVIES ARE BULLSH*T

"Its on", Maria shouted as they friends squished onto the sofa.
"Urghh we forgot popcorn", Groaned Louise.
But they all ignored her and watched the tv. It was midnight. They weren't supposed to be awake, but their parents had gone out to paris for a buisness trip. And Maria's brother didn't care about what they did. He just occasionally groaned or moaned.
The movie was terrifying , the girls wouldn't go anywhere alone. Well all of them except for one. All the girls had to be escorted to the toilet except for one. All of them had to be hunched up in a tight bunch except for one. And that one was sasha. She wasn't scared at all. She wouldn't take them anywhere, she refused to. And she just sat on the sofa , watching the film. By the time all the scary cats decided to come back the film was over. And because they were tired they all went to bed. But Sasha stayed awake, still watching the TV. When she heard a bang... and a whisper "I'm behind you"
    She looked around,
    "yoo-hoo over here"
She turned around again. Then she continued to watch tv, ignoring the visions.
Then the tv turned fuzzed out and on the screen was a figure. She was confused. It started speaking to her.
"sasha, sasha, where are you my pretty",
Thinking she was imagining things she ran into the bathroom. She washed her face with clear blue water and looked up into the mirror. She was again confused. She noticed that the shower curtain was closed, but there was no sound of shower. All the friends were asleep and so was Maria's brother. Surely the parents weren't back yet.

So as she cautiously opened the curtain she saw it.

    Default The Big Game

This is it. This is the moment. This is what it all comes down to. You throw, and you hit. They dont catch it, and you win. We have the numbers on our side. We have 4 players, they have 3. A ball is thrown. Someone grunts, a player was hit! So much the numbers on our side. Its 3 on 3. The tension is rising. The sweat is dripping. The crowd is cheering. I grab a ball, I throw, and I miss. They have 2 balls, we have 1. If any of us run to get another ball, that puts the player in danger. I breathe deeply. I throw the ball. I hit the guy on the left, and now its 3 on 2. But now they have 3 balls. They throw, and both of y teammates are hit. I'm alone. I have one ball. They have 2 balls. I run to the line, the run to the line, and we all get ready to throw and -

    Default Nightmares!

One day lived a girl called Livy. She always thought one day a ghost would appear out of the window. She would tell her mum and her dad, but they just ignored her and said, "You are having nightmares my sweetheart, or maybe your just thinking maybe this would happen, but you know it wont happen." Maybe because, in those times ghost were not believeable, who knows.
Livy packed her clothes into her suitcase to move to America with her mum and brother. Livy was thinking of what could be in her new house. She said to herself, "A ghost, a holy spirit and the most worse, huge dinosaur!" Mum signed. Mum thought, "Maybe we have to take her to a Nightmare Doctor before we go to America..." Mum closed her suitcase, walked to Livy's room and said, "We need to take you to a Nightmare Doctor, this is going to far! You keep thinking stuff will happen but you know it wont! Wake up!" Livy stopped packing her clothes into her suitcase, put on her shoes and held her mum's hand. Livy's brother heard a ghost noise down stairs, he knew it wasnt a trick. He ran down stairs as quickly as he could. There he saw a knife on the floor. Livy's brother screamed and squeaked, he was so scared he wanted to leave immedicatly! He rushed up stairs, ran into Livy's room and said, "Hurry, hurry! Lets get out of here! I heard a ghost noise and a knife was on the floor!" Mum and Livy looked confused. Mum said, "First we are going to a Nightmare Doctor, then when we come back to pack the rest of the clothes, we can come back threw the garden gate, so your not scared, alright?" "Alright mum," said Livy's brother quickly. He rushed down the stairs and banged on the garden door. Livy said, "Alright, alright were coming! I knew this day would come, a ghost would be in our house! We should of moved 3months ago when i suggested!" Livy and mum walked down the stairs. Mum opened the garden door. Livy's brother and mum was the first to go outside. Livy heard a ghostly sound. "ooooo!" She saw a knife move by itself. The knife went closer and closer. Mum shouted, "Come on, lets go to a Nightmare Doctor already!
Mum walked into the house from the garden door. There she saw, a knife with blood and Livy wasnt there.

"Finally, they're gone" said Emine through her teeth which were fixed in wide grin as she waved her family off on holiday. The possibilities that the next 3 days held flooded her mind as she watched their car drive down the road against the rapidly setting sun. Stretched before her were endless thoughts of friends and fun and parties, where anything could happen. She thought of all the money her parents had left her, plenty enough to buy whatever she wanted, including some substances she couldn't exactly buy from anywhere.

A close friend had given her the number of a man who could provide her with what she wanted. Emine was a bit apprehensive though, she had never dealt with anything like this before. Every time she picked up her phone to call him she pictured the police knocking on the door, bursting in and arresting her, and all her friends. Not only would her parents be furious, all her friends parents would be shocked, and Emine knew she could practically kiss her social life goodbye for a few years.

Emine was getting frustrated, she knew her party would be nothing without what she had promised her friends. She was desperate to impress her friends, she had been to so many of their parties, but it felt so important to her that this was the best party any of them had been to, ever.

In the end, the phone call to the man was relatively simple, despite her unbelievable nerves. She told him what she wanted, he told her how much it would be, and they arranged to meet at a park a short walk away from her house, and then they hung up. Throughout Emine was very careful to keep all personal details out of the conversation, she didn't say anything about where she lived or her real name. She even made her voice a bit deeper to make herself sound a bit more capable and mature.

A wave of proudness flooded over her when she hung up, she had done it, she had done this one thing which she felt like would push her into being an adult. She felt on top of the world, like the party would be a huge success, like nothing could go wrong, even when her parents got home.

The loud sound of her ringtone abruptly interrupted her happy thoughts.

She looked at the display, which read "Unknown number". This was slightly weird, but not unheard of because she knew some of her friends had hidden numbers, however she had had bad experiences in the past with some boys from her year. As Emine was debating in her head whether to pick up, it felt like every ring was getting louder, like every vibration was getting intenser. The debate was still raging inside her head: Pick up, let it ring, pick up, let it ring, pick up.

She pressed the green pick up button. Her heart beat was surprisingly fast and she could feel her breath was a little irregular. The line was mysteriously quiet. She held her breath to see if she could hear anything. She couldn't. No background noise, no voice, not even the tiniest hint of life. She didn't know who had her number, but she didn't want to play those mind games, so she decided to hang up and not answer any more.

Suddenly a piercing scream flooded her ears just before she had pressed the hang up button, the sound reverberating around her head, travelling backwards and forwards in her brain. For a split second she couldn't work out where it was coming from. It was definitely coming from her phone, but was too loud and real sounding to be just from there.

The scream had come from her garden. She could see now a very small light shining through the dark, coming from a bush at the end of it, just like the light cast by a phone's display. She suddenly ducked down. Thoughts were rushing through her mind, praying and praying that the person outside her hadn't seen her. She backed away into the corner, trying desperately to avoid making any noise, or casting a shadow around the room. She was on the first floor, but the windows were wide open and the lights blaring brightly.

Slowly a rasping laugh started to come from her phone, which she realised was still clamped to her ear in shock. The laugh slowly grew and grew into a cackle, which she knew could not have been emitted from the same person who screamed. Emine began to plead and plead. The horror that encased her disallowed her from being strong. Her voice came out in a whimper, much like what you'd expect to hear from a harmless mouse. It was a stark contrast from her former mature and confident sound.

The cackle was getting louder and louder, and with every new bout of laughter Emine's horror grew and grew. She seperated her phone from her ear with great difficulty.

She realised the laugh was still getting louder and louder. Her phone wasn't connected to the phone call anymore.

The laugh was still getting louder, however it's ominous sound was now reverberating around the hallway.

Emine turned her head round to face the open door.

She could see a shadow approaching it. She felt like her heart beat was audible for miles.

Every step closer to the door the horrific cackle got louder and louder.

Emine could see the feet now... and suddenly it went black.

Punch after punch. You'd think that after a while they'd hurt less. You'd be wrong. Until now, I'd never known what the phrase 'beaten senseless' truely ment.

I could feel the bass from the subwoofer in my throat, and the smell of cigarette smoke was starting to give me a headache. Although the night had been the best night I'd had in as long as I can remember, it was time to go home. The party had passed it's peak long ago, and although I was trying not to think about it, it was still in the back of my mind that I had to be up early the next day to visit my grandmother at the hospital. I wasn't looking forward to that. Not because I didn't want to see my grandmother, and not because I didn't like the hospital. I just knew that I was going to feel the worst I ever have the next day.
I used both of my arms and most of my energy to help myself get to my feet from the musky, grey armchair and put my half-drank bottle of Stella on the coffee table in front of me. Kicking my way through the empty cans & bottles that were left on the floor, and tip-toeing around the passed-out body that was sprawled out on the floor, I said goodbye to all of my friends who were dotted around the living room.
I let myself out of the house, and through the front garden. Closing the gate behind me, I look both left and right deciding what way to walk. Although I'd never been to the house before, I was sure I could find my way home. It was only about a 15 minute walk. That's mild compared to what I usually have to put up with.
I turned right, pulled my hood over my head & put my hands in my pocket. It was raining. It wasn't heavy. More of a mist than anything. Regardless of the weather, the night seemed rather picturesque. The traffic lights seemed a lot brighter than usual, the pavement was shining from the light rain, and the double yellows mimicked the curb perfectly. And what made everything even more beautiful, was that everything but me was still. I couldn't hear or see any traffic. I couldn't hear the tree's leaves rustling. I couldn't hear any music or talking. Just my foot steps making a quiet splashing noise every time they touched the floor.
I began to sober up more and more the further into my journey I became. That was the best part of walking home after a night out. You always feel that little bit better in the morning. I wasn't so sure about this time though, I was already starting to get quite the headache.
I was nearing the fly-over by the graveyard, and I heard running. As I turn around, I see a white blur zoom into my face. I get knocked to the ground. Once I re-orientate myself, I realised that what hit me was the fist of a middle-aged man. About 40 I'd say. He was wearing a white tracksuit top & jeans. He was bald, ugly & missing a tooth. Before I could say anything, he'd asked me if my name was Connor. It wasn't. Although that's something I can't help, that had somehow earned me another punch to the face. From the impact of the punch, my head bounced off of the tarmac. The man told me that I was going to regret upsetting his daughter. Although I didn't know the man or his daughter, I was kind of already regretting somehow upsetting her. The man dragged me to my feet by the scruff of my hoody, and then instantly kneed me in the stomach. I let out a scream and fell straight to the floor. The man started hitting me in the face. I could feel my eye starting to swell. I tried to plead with him, but he didn't look like he was going to stop. Punch after punch. You'd think that after a while they'd hurt less. You'd be wrong. Until now, I'd never known what the phrase 'beaten senseless' truely ment. I could taste my own blood, and I could feel my cheek broken. I couldn't open my left eye. I was trying to shout for help, but no matter how loud I shouted, nothing would come out. I was starting to drop in and out of consciousness. It felt like a slowed down strobe light. Every time I could see the man again, he'd be in a slightly different place. I knew where his hand would end up each time though. I knew that soon enough I was going to be completely unconscious, so for one last time I tried to shout as loud as I could. Believe it or not, that's pretty difficult when you're vomiting blood.
All of a sudden the punched stop and I hear a shout. I wanted to look up, but I couldn't. I tried with all of my energy, and I didn't move a muscle. The man was shouting stop. I could hear him running towards us. I was going to be saved, and I've never felt so grateful. If I could have, I'd probably have smiled.
The middle aged man who had caused me to be in this state grabbed my cheeks and moved my heads so I could look at him. He had pulled a stanley blade from his tracksuit pocket. He slid the blade up, and it was shone like it was made of silver. I could feel myself starting to lose consciousness. I can't stop thinking if the man who's running to my safety will get here soon. My life depends on it.

it's late so i didn't bother re-reading this or anything. so i don't even know if it makes sense. i'm so tired.

    Default Lost in life.

Marie walked into the almost empty house , she looked at the photo of her ex boyfriend and tears fell from her face. She was alone at the moment and wasn't even sure if her dad was coming home that night. The phone rang several times before Marie heard it , she picked it up and a voice from the other end explained that it had her dad. She was told to go to 4th street. Marie was very gullible and went there , when she got there a gang of 7 boys surrounded her and starting calling her names , forcing her to drink so much she was drunk. Then one of the boys took her back to his house. The next day Marie got over her hangover and looked at the figure standing in front of her , it was her ex boyfriend Danny. He told her about how much he loved her. In her rush for civilisation she slapped him , he grabbed her wrist. The next morning her Dad came home to find the house Empty. He called the police and then from the phone the same voice explained "I've got your daughter".

The Moral of this story is not to judge the people who love you.
