For after years of wild drink and drug-fuelled parties and appalling anti-social behaviour, the self-styled King of Chavs has finally sold the ‘dream’ home he bought with his £9.7million jackpot. The dilapidated state of the five-bedroom mansion means Carroll was forced to accept a £600,000 loss on the sale. Smashed fences, shattered windows and debris in the garden reflect Carroll’s decline from millionaire to pauper.

Such is his downfall, he is said to have gone back to his old job as a £200-a-week binman since being declared bankrupt earlier this year. He frittered away his winnings on a lifestyle of excess, apparently blowing more than £1million on drugs and prostitutes. The 27-year-old picked up his jackpot in 2002, notoriously while wearing an electronic tag for being drunk and disorderly. Shortly after, he bought the house, called The Grange, for £340,000. He spent a further £400,000 extending it and installing a swimming pool and Jacuzzi.

Had he looked after it, the property is thought to have been worth at least £700,000. Instead, he sold the ramshackle home in Swaffham, Norfolk, for just £142,000. His former wife, Sandra, will get half of the cash, leaving Carroll with just £63,000 after paying estate agent and legal fees. But despite the loss he said he was ‘thrilled’, adding: ‘I’m glad the house has been sold – it holds bad memories.’ The father of two had abandoned The Grange after electricity and gas supplies were cut off because of unpaid bills. A friend said: ‘He was living like a wild animal. There was evidence of drink and drugs in every room. He used to hold wild drugs and sex parties and the house got ruined. ‘There was no heating, so people set fire to doors to keep warm.'

What a shame he won in the first place, look at the pictures on the article and the house is totally gutted. It goes to show that even when given a good start in life some people just squander it all. If only somebody more deserving had won in the first place.

Some people really should avoid the lottery at all times. They cannot handle it, or should at least have a plan of action for what to do with it IF they win (even though there are so little chances).

On a seperate rant, it's such a shame some millionaires and other idiots destroy such lovely homes for the sake of space, which is what he did here. Also, is that really a mansion? It doesn't appear to have a big building nor the land or other features to make it a mansion. It's more like a big home with a pool bolted onto the side

I've always hated that man. There are so many people who could benefit hugely from winning millions but he wasted it all away on *****s and drink. The new owner is spending £150,000 on restoring that place, which is so unfair. It was beautiful before Carroll got his hands on it!
