Lord Pearson's short tenure at the minority nationalist party has come to an end.

Pearson failed miserably to make UKIP a real force in UK politics. The whole image of UKIP is ageing old, upper-class men and women who like to base their arguments around conspiracy theories to do with the "political elite" and the "EUSSR." Maybe a new leader can provide the country with a new party that doesn't lie to the public instead of confusing people with fabricated myths or half-truths and get younger people involved.

i'd put my money on mr ukip nigel farage coming back after not winning his seat.

In 1999 Romano Prodi, who took over as Commission president from Jacques Santer, gave an excellent description of how the EU had developed over the years: 'The single market was the theme of the eighties' the single currency was the theme of the nineties; we must now face the difficult task of moving towards a single economy, a single political unity.' and we went on to explain where he was headed: 'For the first time since the fall of the Roman Empire, we have the oppertunity to unite Europe.'

The headof the Bundesbank, Hans Tietmeyer, said; 'A European currency will lead to member nations transferring their sovereignty over financial and wage policy as well as monetary affairs. It is an illusion to think that states can hold on to their autonomy.'

The first president of the European Central Bank (ECB) backed up this view; 'The process of monetary union goes hand in hand, must go hand in hand, with political integration and ultimately political union. EMU (European Monetary Union] is, and always was meant to be, a stepping stone on the way to a United Europe.'

And the second head of the ECB, Jean-Claude Trichet, was also explicit about the EU's powers; ' The Council of Ministers will have more power over the budgets of member states than the federal government in the United States has over the budget of Texas.'

EU Commission president Romano Prodi again said; 'But what is the Commission? We are here to take binding decisions as an executive power. If you don't like the term government for this, what other term do you suggest?'

In case we hadn't got the message still, he said around a month later 'Here in Brussels, a true European government has been born. I have governmental powers, I have executive powers for which there is no ohter name in the world, whether you like it or not, than government.'

Oh and then only a few months back we had the unelected EU President Herman Van Rompuy calling for world government.

As for nationalism which the Orwellian definition is wanting power over other nations and to expand your own powers as a country, i'm afraid not one UKIP policy promotes this and I ask you to find me one. It is infact the EU which is nationalist - a new brand of euro-nationalism of which you alex are a part because I remember fully well when you said you wanted a federal europe and stated that the people should not have a say in that decision. The dutch said no and they were ignored. The French said no and they were ignored. The Irish said no and they were made to vote again - what kind of democracy is that where you have to vote the right way?

Party Leader Lord Pearson (aged 68) is a former businessman and not a hereditry peer.
Party Chairman Paul Nuttall (aged 33) is from Liverpool and is not upper class.
Co-Deputy Party Leader Lord Monckton (aged 58) is artistocratic I will give you that; but then so are Blair, Clegg and Cameron.
Co-Deputy Party Leader David Campbell Bannerman (aged 50) is part related to artistocrat I will give you that.
Leader of MEPs in Brussels Nigel Farage (aged 46) is a former City businessman and is not aristrocratic.

Under Pearson we denied the Conservative Party a full majority in key swing seats and weincreased our vote by 50%. Lord Pearson has always been honest and I thought thats a good thing, honesty? He is no politician. I liked his reign as leader and I supported him whilst others haven't - he knows his stuff and will continue to sit in the Lords as a UKIP peer.

ive heard your arguments but the conspiracy theory lacks conspirators and a credible motive and any real credible proof apart from some quotes out of context.

it was a disaster and you know it. UKIP need to make themselves electable. this isn't a thread about the EU - it's about the multi-issue party that is UKIP.

This thread is about the European Union because the party was founded for that very reason. The party doesn't matter just apart from the fact its the best organisation going at this present moment to get ourselves out of the European Union and give us back our independence. The quotes listed are not 'out of context' and it seems you just do not want to accept the truth (along with many Conservatives especially) of what this European project is all about. If needing more evidence, the former Prime Minister Ted Heath even admitted that he lied about the European project and knew that it was inteneded to build a United States of Europe.

As for UKIP itself on the above points - i'm sorry but the elite doesn't mean the rich and people with titles, the elite means the ones who are in office (many unelectable and unaccountable in both the British government and the European Union) who time and time again ignore the wishes of the people; no means no on a variety of issues. I mean look; Nick Clegg, David Cameron, and Tony Blair - various politicians went to top schools of which I have no problem with that especially as UKIP supports Grammer schools and so do I. I do not care whether someone went to Eton, whether somebody went to the local run-down comprehensive or whether somebody is black, catholic, white, green, blue - it doesn't matter to me. What does annoy people and the general public when it comes to backgrounds is when you have champagne socialist elites such as Blair and Diane Abbott who tax the rest of us yet are embroiled in corruption & hypocrisy themselves hence why I have immense respect for the likes of George Galloway, Tony Benn and others such as Claire Short even though I disagree with them on the vast majority of issues.

The usual tags have now been thrown around like nationalist when in reality the very thing UKIP was set up to do is fight nationalism. We are constrained in the First Past the Post system and Pearson has moved the party onto islamic extremism and immigration and why? - because they always top Europe in what voters are concerned about and what UKIP needs to work on is showing that we cannot stop this unless we leave the European Union and regain our sovereignty.

it's about the multi-issue party that is UKIP.

Not gnit-picking in any way, but the full-name of UKIP kinda reflect their purpose - "United Kingdom Independence", so in a way it's their soul purpose to moan about the EU as the UK isn't solely independent anymore. Although I do agree, UKIP didn't do anything for the General Election (or anything worth while), they only did well in the European Elections.
