Hey,
I understand there are easier methods but I want this one for a reason, I need to know what cables I need and how I would go about connecting what to what so I can watch my laptop on my tv.

A lot of laptops just need a simple VGA cable, and a lot of TVs have a PC port which would be where the VGA plugs in.
Works just like a normal monitor.
don't take this answer too seriously, cos ima technonoob and dont know anything about technology but
I connect my laptop to my TV using ma super dooper HDMI cable.
I think really it depends what type of TV it is (whether it supports HD or something), and also what type of connections your laptop supports. Cos I know my laptop has a HDMI hole and so I purchased this wire from ma local electrics shop to connect it up to ma widescreen tv and it worked like a treat! You may just need a VGA cable idk.

Yeah a lot of modern laptops do use HDMI cables, but still not as many as would probably use VGA, hence why if your TV and Laptop both support VGA then it's best option unless both supports HDMI where you could just use a HDMI cable. If it uses mini display port like mine, then it's a lot more confusing than just that ;Ddon't take this answer too seriously, cos ima technonoob and dont know anything about technology but
