I can't believe there isn't a thread about this already. I saw it last Thursday and was pleasantly surprised. This is the best action/drama film I have seen in a while! Actually I watched Leon the other week so scrap that - but it's still one of the best I have seen recently! Websites have been comparing Ben Affleck's directing ability to that of Clint Eastwood and while I think it is way too early to go that far, he definitely did a great job. Sooo, anyone else seen The Town?

Bascially four criminals rob a bank but someone presses the alarm so they take one of the female employees hostage to get away but release her later on. However they then become increasingly concerned that she might have seen something that could incriminate them, but the one who says he'll deal with it begins to fall for her, which then brings a lot of tension to the group and puts a lot of pressure on the main character. It may sound a little sappy but in the film it didn't come across that way at all. It's interesting because for the majority of the film Rebecca Hall's character is a little emotionally scarred from the experience (being robbed and taken hostage) and she taks salvation in Ben Affleck's character, who is in fact one of the robbers. He puts on this fake act throughout half the film to prevent her from finding out which is great to watch unfold.

The biggest surprise of the film for me was probably seeing Pete Postlethwaite in it! That guy is just popping up everywhere these days. Fantastic actor.

Hmm, I think this is a film I wouldn't watch at the cinema but I would want to watch when it comes out on DVD in the future.
