How do I format? I have tried logging on and then pressing format and start - but it says it cannot do it. Do I have to have two hdd's? Because I don't have two without viruses etc??

Are you formatting your main harddrive? This will erase everything including your operating system from it and you cannot do it when you're running Windows from it. You'd need to boot into another OS or the Windows installer to format that drive, and then you'd need to install a new operating system on it.

If you're talking about formatting a drive that's *NOT* the drive and it's not allowing you to, what error message is it showing?
I'm not crazy, ask my toaster.

    Hi dave,

Yeah it is my mine hdd. So if I put in my 64bit windows disc and booted from that it would run the installer. How would I do this? I got a virus through my router which stops usb keyboards working - so I have to use that old thing with a crap keyboard. This and other problems has led me to realise it would be faster to format.

    Cheers

You put DBAN on a memory stick, CD or floppy. It's a pretty useful tool!

There should be a way to format the hard drive through the Windows disk as well though (I presume)

Just stick the Windows disk in and it'll give you the option to format the drive before you install Windows if that's what you're doing.

    Ah brilliant.

+Rep - I had a feeling it might of given that option from memory (although didn't think of it when I MADE the thread)
