    Default Females Headlining Glastonbury?

I was sitting there in school earlier thinking about this.. does anyone know how many (if any) females have headlined the Pyramid Stage at Glastonbury? Reason I was thinking this is because a few head liners have been rumoured, and alongside the usual legendary guitar bands Kylie, Madonna and Gaga have all been rumoured for headlining slots at this years festival.

Now Jay Z headlining caused a bit of a backlash, so would putting female pop solo acts at the top of the bill cause even more of a backlash for the festival? I think especially Kylie and Gaga, Kylie seems like a bit of a weak act and I don't think she would be able to carry the audience, and Gaga's only been around for a few years. Even though Kylie is apparently more likely to play this year, I think Madonna would be more suited even though some of her festival appearances haven't been overwhelming, and Gaga headlined Lollapalooza last year and was generally well received, but Glastonbury is a huge deal here, and I don't think UK audiences have warmed to her as much as American's yet.

Michael Eavis said that one of the headlining acts this year is a female, the act booked for Sunday is an American act he has wanted for ages (Prince, apparently) and the third is apparently U2, they have been asked but no word on their answer yet.

The other female artist that there's been a few rumours floating about to headline is Amy Winehouse. Makes sense I suppose, she's supposed to be making a comeback this year with a new album, so that's a possibility too.

    So my questions are

    1) What female artists have headlined the PYRAMID STAGE at Glastonbury?
    2) Which female artist is headlining this year?

Wow, if you really believe that Madonna's still relevant to anyone and Gaga isn't popular enough in the UK I can't imagine what music scenes you've been looking at for the past couple of years

Is the Prince rumour true or just something else that you've thrown in there? If that's true that'll be huge

You are spot on the money here, FJ. Harry? :S

    Gaga- UK sales:

    The Fame Album sold 1,200,000
The Fame Monster album sales stand at 1,647,000
Apart from that she has has 4 # singles including being one the biggest selling download artist
    ever.
She is absolutely one of the hottest properties around the world including the UK.

Any band headlining Glastonbury would be envious.

I stand that GaGa is too new to headline though, I don't think it'd feel right..
This is Glastonbury, not V Festival, there is so much history on that stage and the crowds that are attracted aren't that likely to be chartoholics

yeah i did hear that, but i heard that she was taking a break somewhere and also they said that this person would be returning to the festival, and i'm not sure if she has played there before or not so i didn't include her

I never said Madonna was relevant, she is just way more expirienced and legendary, basically. I also didn't say Gaga wasn't popular enough. I said the UK audiences haven't warmed to her as much yet. I know she has A LOT of fans (including me, I'm a huge fan so anyone that thinks I'm against her or anything just don't ;l) but the casual festival goers probably wouldn't be too impressed to hear that Lady Gaga is headlining. It just doesn't feel right yet. I'd love to see that happen this year, but I don't think they'd give her a headlining slot just yet.

And how would I know if the Prince rumour is true? It's a rumour... But if you're asking me if it's a rumour I made up, no, it is a huge rumour.

i agree that gaga doesn't have enough material to headline glastonbury. shes certainly popular enough but she can't put on an hour+ show of tunes that everyone knows like U2 or Radiohead can.

Prince would be a pretty great headliner, that dude knows how to put on a show. even though a lot of the younger crowd probably have heard only a handful of his songs, he'll definitely blow them away with his performance.

usually i'm pretty jealous of glastonbury, cause we don't have as consistently great of a festival here in the states, but this year i'd be super surprised if the glastonbury lineup beats the coachella lineup. the only glaring flaw it has is kings of leon as a headliner the first day, but the rest of the lineup sure as hell makes up for it

oh man if i had to choose a day, it would be hard to choose between saturday and sunday. i've actually already seen both kanye and arcade fire, but i'd like to see them again equal amounts. saturday has animal collective and bright eyes, while sunday has lightning bolt and the [apparently] reunited death from above 1979. i'm leaning towards sunday but thats a tough choice.

i would take you tom but i'm literally as far from california as you can be in the u.s. not calling you guys dumb or anything, or suggesting that you're one of these people, but i've met a few kids from the u.k. who don't really understand how massive the u.s. is. i'm in new york, and this kid i met from britain once asked if we could make a day trip to disney world, and i lol'd. and plus, if i were to go to coachella i'd spend probably half my money on tickets and the other half on drugs, i probably wouldn't have any money left over for extra people.
