    Default Chest Pain

    Hey,
I know the obvious reply "seek medical help". I will when I can. Recently I actually think I've got some sort of heart problem, I've had problems before but never this bad. I don't get pains down my arms but I get excruciating pain on my upper left chest. Any ideas what it may be? I find it hard to breath and get pretty scared because I get short of breath and feel like I'm going to have a heart attack or something (Not that I know what it feels like but I can only imagine). Its been like this really bad for the past week, I reckon it could get even worse tonight. I will go see a doctor but I hate them. All they do is talk about personal issues which I'm not ready to discuss.

Taken from the NHS website for immediate reference
The symptoms of a heart attack include:

    • chest pain: the pain is usually located in the centre of your chest and can feel like a sensation of pressure, tightness or squeezing
    • pain in other parts of the body: it can feel as if the pain is travelling from your chest to your arms (usually the left arm is affected but it can affect both arms), jaw, neck, back and abdomen
    • shortness of breath
    • nausea
    • an overwhelming sense of anxiety (similar to having a panic attack)
    • feeling light headed
    • coughing
    • vomiting
    • wheezing
I know you don't really want to hear it, but I really do think you will need to seek medical advice over this immediately, or at the very least contact NHS Direct or consult their website.

However if you are unwilling, people are sometimes prescribed Aspirin or other variations (unless for medical reasons such as allergies and previous history) which can reduce the risk of impending heart attack or keep you alive long enough for medical attention. I am NOT however RECOMMENDING that you do this as I have no professional medical qualifications or knowledge of your medical history. But if you really do fear that you're going to have a coronary, I would recommend researching immediate prevention as much as you can before taking such measures as medication, and that YOU DO seek medical attention immediately, or if your condition rapidly deteriorates.

Thanks for the advice, as far as heart attacks go I tick the following boxes:

Hey. Chest pain as in how you described it is usually related to heart problems, be it heart attack or any heart vessels got stuck. Like you said you had problems before, I think you should be more careful to keep yourself clean and safe from any heart infections. You will never know what is wrong in your body. So, the most important advice from me is seek medical help from specialists. Let them talk about personal issues even though you are not ready to talk about it. You might be alive this one second and you might be dead next. Nothing is more important than life. Lastly, prevention is better than cure.

Are you sure you are not asthmatic , Richie? I have asthma and do have some of those symptoms. Does it hurt or does it feel restricted and is more sore? The anxiety is probably caused because you don't know what it is or you could actually be having a panic attack. If it eases when you breath in and out slowly in a paper bag then it's probably a panic attack.

I had asthma many years age, I stopped taking the medication when i was 12 or so because I felt it was only doing worse, when I went off the inhaler, I got less chest pains but now I get chest pains and I feel weaker, if that makes sense?

Haven't got asthma have you, I know this sounds kind of random now, but my friend has asthma and she can get SERIOUSLY bad chest pains, but ovbisously if they are that bad you need to go and see a doctor, if they ask you anything just say "I'd rather not disscuss this subject" ;D Hope everythings okay! -Hannah xx

Well you certainly want to check it as a possibilty because life is so much better with the proper medication. You will have much more energy and feel much better all around. I could not do without mine. I have a reliever also serevent to open the airways and flixotide (steriods) to protect them, night and morning. I would be in serious trouble without them. You have to really know how to use & manage them properly as it doesn't help otherwise. If you don't want to see the doctor does the practice have an asthma clinic you could get an appointment with?
