    Default little bit of damage

    Hey,

Noticed this on my car earlier. I don't know exactly when it happened but I have a feeling it was when I was parked up in college, someones come too close to me parking up? Idk, anyway.

That bit has 'popped out' and won't go back in, and its all scratched along that side.

    fools.

edit: there was also some yellow paint-like stuff. off another car? cleaned that off now though.

Looks like a parking incident. Just polish it out or t-cut/colour magic if all else fails.

no point starting a new thread. brakes have felt a bit weird for a while, like having to slam on to stop sometimes and it not slowing down. so i took it to the garage today and he did a full brake inspection.

turns out whoever had it before me had put the wrong brake discs in. they were too small for the car. can't remember exactly what was said i'm no mechanical expert. but something along the lines of it was only braking in one area on the discs which was obv effecting the braking, and the pads were rubbing together because the pads were too big for the discs which meant they were properly worn out. something about the front caliper locking up aswell.

something had been superglued on that had fell off and because the discs were too small they were overheating and the piston was close to coming out or something.

basically he said its unsafe to drive and he'd put it in writing that he's said it shouldn't be driven - but i paid to have it sorted.

took my dad and cousins bf whos a mechanic so i knew he wasn't making it up lol.

Christ, I managed to change the brake discs on my old mk2 Clio myself, and not only were they correct, I even did them correctly too... by myself (even if they did squeak a little bit). Really amazes me, peoples' inability to maintain their car properly

Oddly I had my brakes replaced the other day, had clutch replaced and the ex's dad was doing the work for me. Came back later that day telling me I was lucky I wasnt dead by now because the pedal travel on my brakes were the worst he had ever seen.

After inspecting them the last garage who looked at the car hadnt put the rears back on properly and they were missing loads of parts. This explained why my handbrake would need to go right up to the top notch to hold the car and then need to be left in gear to stop it rolling away all is perfect now though

if the sliders are siezed on the caliper it's usually cheaper to get another caliper from a scrappies. it's never fun when the piston comes out, but it could be the piston that is siezing, in which case remove the pistons and give them a clean with something which doesn't induce friction. Pop them back in and you'll need to bleed the brakes completely. If you're putting new pads in remember to copper slip them otherwise they'll squeal very loudly, which is pretty annoying.

i'm the star in the reasonably priced car!
