Default Is your family pushing you into a certain career?

well at the moment, i'm quite interested in real estate, my parents are quite happy with that since they're both real estate agents themselves, however, my grandmother, wants me to go to uni (preferrably for journalism), get a degree etc, but nothing in uni particularly interests me as much as real estate. she's usually the main one who pressures me into doing well, and i don't want to disappoint her, but i don't want to end up going to uni for something that i'm not even interested in? it's even came down to the point where she's started saying ridiculous things such as "if you don't go to uni then you get no inheritance," now this bothers me. it's not the fact that i won't get any inheritance, but that she's trying to bribe me into something that at the moment, i don't want to do.

    so there's my story!

what about you, do you have any family members who are trying to pressure you into something that you're not interested in?

Keep your options open and don't decide until you need too. You may change your mind but whatever you decide to do should be what is right for yourself not to please anybody else. I am lucky I was encouraged but never pushed to do anything in particular.

Well in my family my mum is laid back and will allow me to do what ever career I choose to do, she may not be happy with the decision that I'm choosing but she knows it's my own choice. On the other hand my dad is the complete opposite he wants everyone to do everything his way and doesn't listen to reason. I used to swim for my borough and what to the Youth Games and also done Biathlon when I wanted to quite my dad wouldn't let me and just kept on making us go swimming. Then I just started to mess around in training then he finally let me quit. I suggest you tell your grandmother the truth so it's get out of the way as when it comes down to finding places for University it will probably be more of a dismantlement for her.

My parents have always been like quite free in what I want to do and would support me with what ever I decided buttt always make sure that I'm sure about a decision and let their opinion be known.

However, if I even make a passing comment my mum will ALWAYS latch onto it and bring it up even if it was just a fleeting though and assumes that what she wants for me or considers nice I want too which is INFURIATING.

Nah, I've never been pushed towards a certain career. My dad messed around at school and worked in a pet food factory all his life and my mum worked in a factory years ago before her body played up then she got classed as disabled so my parents can't really tell me to do a factory job lol. They just want me to do well and have a happy future. I first wanted to work in childcare but I kind of don't want to anymore, once I leave school next year I want to go to college and study hairdressing. My mum told me it doesn't pay a lot but it is what I want to do. I'd rather be in a job I enjoy than one I don't.

My rents let me follow my own path really, they've offered a few suggestions but none of them sounded right for me.

Only suggestions really; I've never been pushed/forced in to taking a particular career.

Yeah, I am being forced into studying Medicine and become like a doctor or something along those lines. I can understand them I suppose, but its not something I'd like to do. Working all day, every day for every week of every month? No weekends off? So much pressure and time is needed for that job, I really dont wanna do it. However, I'd love to become a pilot, but training is a bit too pricey and my parents reckon I won't find a job, because it will be hard to find one, seeming as there are so many pilots now.

Not in the slightest, they've only pushed me to work hard in college really, I was going to take the animation route leaving school, but gladly I took media, thank **** because I can see animation being such a tedious job now

For an asian family, surprisingly not haha. My mums always been supportive of what i wanted to do and ive said ive wanted to be a pretty wide range of things. No one in my family has ever pushed me in a certain direction though, as long as im not failing they dont mind
